My name is Vangelis Banos. I am an Information & Communication Systems Engineer. I have an MSc in Information Systems and a PhD in Informatics from the Department of Informatics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

I am focused on software engineeringdigital libraries, metadata, aggregators, web archiving, digital preservation and search engines.

I’m based in Thessaloniki, Greece but I work with interesting people all over Europe. Below, you can see a list of the most interesting things that I’m working on right now.

archivereadyArchiveReady.com is an innovative online tool which determines if your website will be archived correctly by web archives.

new_openarchives_logo_homeOne of my most important projects is openarchives.gr, the first and most important search engine for Greek scientific and cultural content.

UltraCl@rity is a search engine indexing the full text of all Greek Government public documents,  published online through the “Cl@rity” open gov data project.

locloudI am working with Future Library, a non-profit organisation aiming to improve Greek public libraries with the support and the funding of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. We are currently working on digital libraries and Europeana in the context of the LoCloud Best Practice Network.

I am developing oaipmh.com, a web application which enables validation and data extraction from OAI-PMH enabled digital libraries.

eimI’m responsible for the  information systems of the Hellenic Institute of Metrology (EIM), which belongs to the National Quality Infrastructure System (NQIS) of Greece.
